MY STORY

My love for stories and portraiture began with a love of faces when I was in high school. My mother was going through an illness and I would go with her wig shopping and studied how to help her with make-up during her cancer treatment. This experience ultimately lead me to volunteer with the American Cancer Society's "Look Good Feel Better" program and become a part-time makeup artist early in my photography career. I fell in love with people's faces: expressions, reactions, emotions, and human connection. That's when I realized I will forever be searching for truth in people's portraits and their stories.

I've written, produced, and directed numerous films and love shooting cinematography for motion projects. My portrait work is influenced heavily by the color, tone, and narrative qualities of cinematography. Photography shoots are more or less an extension of my film directing:  there's always a rich story involved, even if we make it up as we go! Studying and practicing improvisational, sketch, and standup comedy in Milwaukee and Boston taught me that laughter and being relaxed always win.

I’ve received my BFA from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in Milwaukee, WI and my MFA from Lesley University College of Art and Design in Cambridge, MA. I was born and raised in the midwest and travel often for my freelance work.
